All the work is hand-crafted personally by me in my workshop in Monroe, NC. There are numerous hours of hand-work involved - probably about 40-60 hours. I make only a few of these large boxes each year, and usually sell them around Christmas time. All are unique. The pattern of inlays and bandings are done by hand with a router and/or knife. This is all hand-work including the bandings which were designed and made in my workshop. You will find no gaps in any of the joints. There is no staining on any of the woods - all the color you see is the natural color of the hardwoods. Woods are: Selected American black walnut with quilted maple burl inlays, Brazilian bloodwood banding, and holly stringing on the stiles. All these woods are hand-chosen for figure. The drawers are made of solid and stable mahogany with strong, box-joint joinery and lined with red suede. The drawers operate positively and smoothly on handmade mahogany guides. The hardware is solid brass. Approximate dimensions are 15" wide, 10-1/2" deep and 21" high. Each drawer, inside, measures about 9-1/4" X 7" X 2" deep. The finish is french polish - hand-rubbed - fine and smooth - without flaws. The french-polish is an antique polishing technique which I teach at the local woodcraft store.
